04 Jul Desperate Houswives…More than a TV Show, it’s a New Syndrome
Show me a middle-aged woman who doesn’t do daily battle with some facet of her appearance and I’ll show you a saint–or a student of some sort of kumbaya that I’d like to sign up for. None of us (that I know) are immune to the mirror and the constant barrage of mass media showing and telling us what we should look like.
Personally, I find connection to family and friends, spirituality, healthy eating and exercise, lots of gratitude and the occasional shopping trip, keeps me smiling and my esteem soaring…or at least cruising. A staggering number of women, however, cannot make peace with the imperfect bodies that house their perfect souls. Once thought of as a “teen” disease, eating disorders are on the rise among middle aged women.
